About us

The National Radiation Laboratory (NRL) is a specialist unit of the Ministry of Health, based in Christchurch, New Zealand. Its main roles are to:

  • Regulate the use of ionising radiation sources

  • Provide an emergency response capability in the event of radiation incidents

  • Provide expert advice

  • Provide high-quality measurement and advisory services for both ionising and non-ionising radiation within New Zealand and internationally
