Quality certification and accreditation at NRL

Certification to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000. Quality management systems – requirements

The NRL has maintained certification of its quality management systems since 18 December 2001. Ongoing certification is by Telarc SAI Limited.  Telarc SAI is accredited by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand.

The scope of certification is:

“The use and safety of radiation (ionising and non-ionising).  In particular:

  • the administration and management of national ionising radiation protection legislation and licensing
  • compliance monitoring
  • provision and communication of expert advice and opinion
  • operation of calibration and radiation metrology and analysis services
  • emergency response to radiation incidents”

Accreditation to NZS/ISO/IEC 17025: 2005. General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories

NRL's Environmental Laboratory has been accredited for chemical testing since 2 April 2003 and NRL's Personal Dosimetry Laboratory has  been accredited for metrology and calibration since 24 August 2004.

Accreditation is under the Testing Laboratory Act 1972 and is through International Accreditation New Zealand.
