conclusions from the most recent research.
Guidelines for Operators of Ultraviolet (UV) Tanning Lamps (PDF - 109 KB
These guidelines have been prepared to help operators of commercial solaria reduce the risks associated with the use of artificial tanning equipment, and comply with the requirements of AS/NZS 2635:2008 Solaria for cosmetic purposes. The guildelines are not a substitute for the Standard itself, which can be obtained from Standards New Zealand (phone 0800 782 632 or via their website).
This version of the guidelines (prepared in February 2009) is provisional, with a final version planned for the end of 2009. The NRL would welcome any feedback from users - please send comments by email to enquiry@nrl.moh.govt.nz
Interagency Advisory Committee on the Health Effects of
Electromagnetic Fields: Report to Ministers November 2004
(PDF - 161 kB)
Research on radiofrequency and extremely low
frequency fields is monitored in New Zealand by an interagency
committee reporting to the Director-General of Health. This is the
Committee's most recent report to Ministers.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) safety guidelines (2002
edition) (PDF - 251 kB)
These guidelines were prepared by representatives from the NRL,
Australian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine
(NZ Branch), the NZ Institute of Medical Radiation Technologists and
the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists (NZ Branch). They are
based on the findings and recommendations of the International
Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, the British
National Radiological Protection Board, the National Health and
Medical Research Council, the Food and Drug Administration, the
International Electrotechnical Commission and the Society for
Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The guidelines indicate circumstances
under which examinations may proceed with no special precautions,
and those where a more careful evaluation may be necessary. They do
not displace the need to maintain a current knowledge of the
relevant medical literature.

kB)
This 102 p A4 text provides general coverage of both ionising and
non-ionising radiation as well as practical information for those
undertaking radiation monitoring functions.
